- The Mavs looked horrible last night. The final margin of victory was only 12 but if you watched the game, it was a lot more than that. We just don't look focused, we look like we're content playing in the 2nd round. On the other hand, Denver looks untouchable. They are easily the best team in the West right now. At home, when they get on a roll, they are the best team in the NBA, period. Shooters, drivers, slashers, hustle guys, depth, leaders, they got it all. Props again to Chauncey Billups and also to George Karl, their coach. He has stuck to his guns, preached defense, and even over-criticized his team but man are they playing well at the right time. Of course playoff series never really start until you lose a home game, but the Mavs need work and help, not to mention major adjustments and maybe a kick in the pants. Let's hope Howard is healthy, because Dirk putting up 35 and the bench putting up 50+ still doesn't even get a W, and not even a loss but a regular old butt kicking. I don't know, we need something.
- What did I say about the Rockets-Lakers series? Please look back and tell me what I said. The NASAs match up really well with the Lakers and are able to contain Kobe and hold their own down low with the big men. The Rockets did not come out intimidated, did not hold anything back, and played well out in LA. I think the Lakers were shocked a bit, but not to the point where they threw the game. They just lost. Game 2 tonight will be very interesting, I look for the Lakers to win in a close game. But if somehow the Rockets can pull it off, and take a 2-0 lead going back to the 3rd coast, watch out now.
- Boy did the Cavs come to play last night. A big night for their team with LeBron winning the MVP and getting handed the hardware, and giving up a dunk on the first play of the game to LeBron isn't going to get it done ATL. Also, I think a big play which set the tone for that game and perhaps the series, was to see LeBron dive after a loose ball, wrestle it away from Josh Smith, and get the break started which ended in a tip in by Varejao. That's great to see. Really good stuff from the humble LJ23. Like I said, that series could easily be a sweep, the Cavs have the eye of the tiger. They are poised yet aggressive, confident but not cocky. A championship run is inevitable for that team, as far as winning it, we'll have to see. They sure look ready, though.
- The Magic pulled off a Game 1 mini-upset in Boston Monday night. Boston is tired, they need rest, and Superman came rested and ready to play. Interesting series, I think Boston is still the better team but with injuries and fatigue playing against them also, don't be surprised if Orlando dismantles them, and it could be quick. But like I said who really cares, the Cavs are coming out of the East.
- Man Rick Ankiel I thought you were dead. If you haven't seen that replay, don't watch it. The St. Louis Cardinals centerfielder went after a fly ball at the warning track and stumbled into the wall head first. It looked terrible, and you could tell the devastation of the blow when his hat bill was bent the opposite way. I thought for sure he hurt his neck and/or his spine. Painful thing to see, but happy that he was only in the hospital one night and was at the game last night. Scary sight, but thankful that he's okay because he's a great player.
- BoSox have the Yanks number. And on top of that, the Yanks are not playing well. They need to move Joba to the pen, he has dominant stuff but he doesn't have the longevity of a starter. Set up the Save Machine that is and has been Mariano Riviera, instead of being a 5th starter. My cousin told me there were chants of Torre at the game, that's funny to hear.
- We don't talk hockey on this blog, but Sidney The Kid Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin put on a show the other night. The two best players in the world each recorded hat tricks that ended in a 4-3 Capitals win to take a 2-0 series lead. It was funny to see the 75-100 hats that Ovechkin got which happened to delay the game in order for the cleanup, as opposed to the one hat Crosby got. I think the ref scooped it up while the game was going on (not seriously), but very funny to see. Props to both, you want a great hockey game, that series is probably your best bet for one.
Shout out today goes to my lady. Congrats on your meeting with Ford Models, I told you they'd love you. Look for her taking over the world like Cindy Crawford or something like that. Let's just hope she doesn't leave me for Tom Brady, or Kobe Bryant. Kidding, I hope. That's all I got. I gotta go pick up some suspenders for my Graduation this Saturday. Gotta look fly.
