Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself

Hola mis amigos. Despues de mucha tiempo, estoy aqui! Y ahora es el tiempo para regresar a escribiendo. Vamanos...
  • I hope you guys could understand my intro. If you couldn't, this is your chance to learn a few words in a different language.
  • In the sports world today (aside from post-all-star break baseball), SEC media day, approaching NFL training camps, and the dwindling NBA free agent market are the only things going on. To me, it's similar to going to one of my mom's parties. There are a lot of small snacks that may appear to be an actual meal, but that is only because there are no steaks in sight. If you are a male that has ever been to a women's party, you should know what I mean.
  • The LA Angels do not lose a game. As good as my Rangers have been this year, the Angels appear to be in no mood to hand over the division crown. Also, with the BoSox atop the Wild Card standings, the Rangers can't afford to lose many games right now if they plan to see the postseason. I'm still waiting for the gifted Neftali Feliz to make his debut so we can all see what the talk is about. For the first time in a long time, people are starting to rally behind the Rangers and their success; it's a nice change of pace from the Mavs and Cowboys, who are in a constant struggle to live up to monumental expectations. The Ranger franchise is on the rise, and it's making Texas summers a little more bearable.
  • Congrats to Mark Buehrle on his partido perfecto. Very impressive.
  • It's Tebow Time. First, he's on the cover of SI. The same day I see that, I notice that all of SEC Media Day is focused around discovering who didn't vote for TT as the first team SEC QB. Okay yeah it's surprising that he wasn't unanimous first team, but give me a break. As good as he is, don't make it a national emergency to find out who didn't vote for him. It finally surfaced that Steve Spurrier was the one who didn't put Tebow at the top of the list. Instead of Spurrier admitting it was an accident, I was hoping the Old Ball Coach would say something to the effect of, "You're dang right I didn't vote for that kid, Jevan Snead has much better mechanics, fundies, and general IQ of the game than the Gator boy, my vote was for Snead and I'm sticking to it."Unfortunately, it turned into another brag minute on the former Heisman winner. Regardless, Tebow will be forgotten once Ryan Mallett steps into SEC lore.
  • NFL training camps are on the way, and as of now I don't have many thoughts. Favre will be back. Vick will catch on somewhere, but not the Cowboys (according to Jerry).
  • NBA free agency is at a near stand-still, and the Mavs don't have as much to show for it as I would like. As much as I love Shawn Marion, he isn't the answer to Mark Cuban's prayers. He will bring D, athleticism, and finishing ability; however, we still like an inside force. Like I always say, Damp could be the best backup C in the league, unfortunately he is a starter. Quick change of thought, I LOVE Rodrigue Beaubois. What an intriguing prospect. A wingspan 8 in. longer than his height, incredible leaping ability, and shooting range for days. As me and my cohorts have often asked, what allowed this guy to fall to the late first round? Right now I can't answer that, and when I can, I'll let you know.
  • This summer, the rich got richer and the poor got poorer in the NBA. With Ariza and possibly Odom leaving, I don't think the Lakers remain the consensus No. 1. The C's are built for a run, and obviously the Cavs, Magic, and Spurs will be in the upper echelon of teams. March of this season should be more entertaining than that time Karl Malone and DDP decided to step in the ring against Hulk Hogan and Dennis Rodman. Wait, that's impossible, make it a close second.
Nothing too deep this time, just wanted to touch base on a few topics. I'm out like any positive press Chris Brown thought he would have at this point in his career.

Holla at a player when you see 'em in the street,

Big Wil

I Know I Know I Know

I'm sorry. It's been 74 years since I posted, and that's my fault. I have no excuse. Let's blog...
  • So the Lakers won the Ship. Congrats to the men who really deserve it...Josh Powell, DJ Mbenga, and Adam Morrison. Haha just kidding just kidding, seriously congrats to Kobe, D-Fish, and The Zen Master Phil Jackson. Compelling series, and a completely different series if Orlando wins the games they are supposed to. Two OT games which the Magic should have won makes that series 3-1 in favor of Orlando going into Game 5. That's a totally different ballgame. The abundant turnovers and as always missed free throws late were significant in the Magic's demise. Hedo Turkoglu has already said he is going to opt out and become a free agent. Not surprising since his lack of defense and questionable effort/shot choice also caused internal problems for the Magic. Don't look for Orlando to go anywhere though, they have great young players, and have really solidified themselves as a force in the NBA. On top of that, the only way for Dwight Howard to go is up, he has no post moves, can't make free throws, and still tied the record for most double-doubles in a playoff (22). But let's give daps where daps are due. The Lakers were the better team. Congrats to that whole team, especially the latter 3 I mentioned earlier, for coming back after last year's debacle of a Finals. I commend you Kobe, job well done, you really have grown into a man and become the face of the NBA after many, including myself, thought after your legal troubles you could/would never come close to that peak again. Congratulations to you, Kobe Bryant. (you like that Miss La?)
  • In addition, great debate I had with some of my posse yesterday. Where is Kobe in the ranks of greatest players of all-time? Top 5? Top 10? Top 15? My vote goes to Top 10, approximately 9 or 10. Ahead of him, for sure, is MJ, Wilt, Bill Russell, Magic, Bird, Oscar Robertson, and then perhaps guys like Shaq, Duncan, Bill Walton, Bob Cousy, guys like that. It's a great conversation, really one without a right answer given your bias and what you think makes a G.O.A.T., as the rappers say. I think it will take at least another 2-3 Championships to climb that ladder and even come into the same paragraph as Jordan and Bill. Not to say he can't or won't do it, but I think that is what it will take. Let the debate begin. LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS ON THIS TOPIC!!
  • As for the Zen Master. Ten Championships. Ten. In 19 years. 13 Finals appearances in 19 years. They talk about, Oh Phil had all this talent in Jordan and Pippen and Shaq and Kobe...Pardon my french but if that's the case how come no one else won the Ship with these guys? The coaches before Phil in Chicago couldn't do it, the coaches after Phil in L.A. couldn't do it. That's a load of bologna, granted he did have outstanding players, but what championship teams don't?!! As I told Wilson yesterday, you could have the 5 best players in the L on your team, but if you can't get them to sync, play together and work towards a common goal, that's all you got, the best 5 players in the league. The word synergy comes to mind. Look it up if you don't know what that means. Congrats to the Basketball Journeyman, I bow to you.
  • Shout out to my Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team for making it to the CWS. We beat Cal State Fullerton in Round 1, then got routed yesterday by #3 LSU Tigers. We have to be the surprise of the tournament as of yet, even with the beating we took yesterday. We will go down swinging, bet your rally caps on that.
  • Favre to the Vikings? I still don't want to talk about it. Just stop. Hush.
  • Brandon Marshall, the very talented Broncos WR, asked for a trade yesterday. This guy has potential, crazy potential. If he can get his attitude right, he could become a Top 3 WR. I don't blame him, if my team traded Jay Cutler for Kyle Orton I'd be asking for a trade too. I wouldn't want Orton on my flag football team. I see you Bobby Rosener!!
  • Like I said, the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup in a Game 7 upset over the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit. Big win, The Kid has finally become a man. Wilson asked me name another player besides Malkin and The Kid...you can ask him what my response was.
  • Rangers are still looking good. Dropping a bit, but they should to the likes of Boston and New York. As long as we're ahead in the division, that's all I care about. Hell, as long as we're above .500 that's all I care about.
Sorry again for the long delay. Feels good to talk sports again. I've got a second interview this weekend in STL. Wish me luck. Shout out today goes to anyone who still reads this. Pass the word along, let's debate about Kobe/Phil. Adios amigos.

Inexcusable

On the midnight showing (otherwise known as the LA showing) of Sportscenter, I caught only the Top Ten, but it was all I needed to hear. The Jonas Brothers commentated the SC Top Ten. It's enough to make an sports fan rethink their entire belief system, or at least wonder what the people at ESPN were thinking. First they ruin Thanksgiving, now they are killing the staple of ESPN, what's next? Christmas?..........

Sadly,

What Craig David and LeBron James Have In Common

"I''m walkin' away, from the troubles in my life, I'm walkin' away...."-Walkin' Away, Craig David

This whole thing isn't news anymore, and it's well known now that Bron walked off the court in silence after his Game 6 elimination loss to the Magic. I heard about the Email or text or whatever he sent, but that doesn't mean much to me. My boy BFlo and I were watchin ESPNEWS the other day when LeBron said something to the effect of "It's like getting beat up, do you shake hands with someone after they beat you up? No. I'm a competitor, it's what I do." First off, no one was trying to beat you up, they were trying to advance to the NBA Finals, the same thing you were doing. Second of all, it's my opinion that a true competitor has respect for his opponent, regardless of outcome. LeBron didn't show much respect by avoiding the Magic. The great thing about hoops is, people play hard to win, and as heated as it might get on the court, most people always know it's not personal, and everything is the same once it's over as when it started. Atleast that's how it's supposed to be, that's how PROFESSIONALS should handle it. As well as LeBron has always handled the media and all of that, I feel he made a big mistake by disrespecting the Magic, and then defending himself days later. I understand if you are just that mad at yourself in the moment or something, but if that's the case, then apologize later. It's a shame that his unforgettable series was capped by a Detroit Bad Boy-esque move.
  • As little as ESPN Hockey analyst Barry Melrose does for me, he made a great point in a discussion over LeBron's walk out. He said "LeBron, if you can do everything right when you win, you better be able to do the same when you lose." I'm not going to offer analysis on this quote, it's pretty self-explanatory. Just wanted to give props where props are due.
  • People love to compare LeBron and MJ on their play, but let's go ahead and compare them on this topic. I recently read an article on ESPN.com in which Joe Dumars talked about how Jordan reacted after losing a series. "We beat the Bulls in the playoffs three years in a row, and after every series Michael made a point to come over to me after the game, shake my hand, and give me a hug. So when they beat us, and Isaiah and Co. silently left the court, I made sure to find Mike, and give him a handshake and a hug." MJ didn't just leave the court, he swallowed his pride, and showed respect for his opponent. Because of this, Dumars showed the same respect for Jordan when the tables had turned. As blogfan Rico Flora said the other day, "Are you big enough to make yourself small?"
Gracias por su tiempo, Adios,

Big Wil

Interviews, Tests, St. Louis

Sorry guys I've been romped with life. Had a couple of interviews in StL last Friday. Got invited back to both basically, but one wanted to wait until I was done with summer school, so really only one. I turn 22 tomorrow, so kudos to that as well. A lot has happened since either of us have said anything, so I'll try to tackle as much as I can.
  • Orlando-L.A. This is not the matchup everyone wanted to see, but I think it is the best possible matchup for the Finals. Cleveland just disappointed me completely, and I think LeBron-Kobe would have been a sweep, or close to it, advantage Kobe and Co. Howard (Shoulders) will at least be able to bang down low, and with Turkoglu and Lewis both being big guards/small forwards, they will also be able to handle Kobe, Ariza, Walton, Odom. Very interesting series. I honestly believe the Lakers time has come, but as I told Wilson today, don't be surprised if Orlando takes this thing all the way and even wins, especially with the 2-3-2 home court format. They are very good at home, and if they shoot well they pose a great threat to any team in the L, including the Lakers. Their 4 out 1 in format is very dominant when it works, and having the best young center in the world doesn't hurt either.
  • Cleveland is in turmoil. The champ-less city has to be hurting. It's a shame to see that even after the great year they had they still have the same problems as before. I think they're still a good 2 pieces away from being a legit championship contender. Mo Williams is a good start, but add some big men and perhaps a more legit 2G and they're set. Take LeBron out of that lineup, you have Williams, Delonte West, Andersen Vareajao, Zydrunas Illgauskas, and Sasha Pavlovic? Or Wally Sczerbiak?!! Really?!! What is that? The Milwaukee Bucks all over again Mo, the Bucks ALL OVER AGAIN. Wilson gave a great point about their regular season--they did what a good team is supposed to do. They won on their home court and beat teams they were supposed to on the road. Wilson told me they were -14 on average against the Lakers, Magic, and Celtics, also not including a 19 point loss to Houston. That's a pretty shocking statistic. I feel bad for LeBron, I don't know what else the King could have done. Arguably the best series ever played by a losing player, perhaps the best series by an individual period. Just for the record, he did send an email to Dwight Howard congratulating him on winning and everything. That takes a bit of the sting off of him not shaking hands with Shoulders or any of his Magic teammates after their decisive 13 point victory.
  • In NHL news, the Red Wings took a 2-0 series lead on the Pittsburgh Penguins, thus ruining my prediction of the Pens winning it all. Oh well, perhaps The Kid can make a comeback.
  • Rafael Nadal lost his French Open streak to same guy who made fun of him last year. Funny how karma works out. Pretty staggering how untouchable he was, how unbeatable he was, and then along comes this 20-something seed and it's all over. Just a goodbye wave and laughing in the post-match interview and that's it. No more talk, no fallout, nothing. Weird.
  • Josh Hamilton is going to have an MRI. Bad news for fantasy owners and Texas Rangers fan. The All-Star slugger has been injured basically all season and even with that the Rangers have the best record in the AL. Everything is seeming to come together for them. Haven't been able to catch many games, but everytime I check the scores on the Bottom Line, the Rangers are always in the yellow. Good stuff.

That's all folks. Time to start celebrating my birthday. Shout out to Holiday Inn Express in Fenton for the Honeymoon Suite this weekend. Two fingers like Mario.

Patience Media, Patience

I don't have a lengthy opening statement today, aside from the fact that tomorrow is Memorial Day, a day for us to honor the men and women who have given their lives for their country. With that being said, the ranting begins....
  • I can't take it anymore. I have seen somewhere close to 50 replays of LeBron's game winner in Game 2. I'm a LeBron fan, and that was a great shot, but the media is blowing this thing up like he just won them Game 7 of the Finals.  And yes, the shot may have been Jordanesque, but stop with all the relating of LJ and MJ because of that shot. Lebron has hit TWO game winners, whereas MJ hit 25 game winners in his NBA career. I'm not saying LeBron can't reach Jordan's level, all I'm saying is he hasn't YET. During the LA/Denver halftime last night, Magic told LeBron he was now considered a closer, mentioning MJ, Bird, and two other legends. Come on Magic, don't give the beast that much credit yet, like I said, it's the man's second game winner. I like Bron, I think he has the potential to be at MJ's level. With that being said, if he can get there, I want him to get to that level on his own, not because the media builds up his every moment like it's a world-changing event.
  • Dwight Howard only had one shot attempt in the fourth quarter of game 2. Pathetic. Give him the ball, the man is like Hercules down there. And who knows, D-How takes makes a couple of buckets, and LeBron may never get that last shot.
  • Last night the Lakers won in Denver, taking a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conf. Finals. Kobe was true to form, posting 41 points, whereas Melo was AWOL in the second half, scoring only three points. Don't bring Kool Aid to a gin party son. This series is a ton of fun to watch, and produces great games. Although the Nuggets have the tools to be the Champs, Kobe's great play, combined with Trevor Ariza's elevated game, is going to be too much for the Tattoo Crew. I'm interested to see how they respond tomorrow night, I expect another good game in Denver.
  • People keep saying the Nugs should have been up 2-0 going into Game 3. Here's my question, why don't people say the same thing about the Magic? Just curious, leave a comment if you have any thoughts.
  • Excluding that three game skid in Detroit, my Rangers are rollin' right now. First in the division, and a nice 3.5 game cushion separates them from the second place Angels. The bats are swingin as always, and the pitching is getting the job done. The Bronx Bombers come into town this week and I intend on going to one of the games, I'll let ya know how it goes.
  • Mike Vick now makes $10 an hour, someone tell me how he is managing to pay for that big house he keeps driving to?
I don't have much else for now, the other Neely is on deck. Shout out to my boy T-rav Walker for getting his Letter of Intent to play football at Mid-America Nazarene, that's big stuff my friend. For now I am gone, Covino's pizza and wings are calling my name.

Stay thirsty my friends,

Big Wil

End of Round One

So last night ended Game 1's of the Conference Finals, as well as American Idol. Shout out to my man Kris Allen from Conway, Arkansas for taking the title away from Adam Lambert in a small upset. Great show, tons of performances. You almost forgot you were watching American Idol, until the man, the myth, the legend that is Ryan Seacrest would mysteriously pop up. Let's get into it.
  • I am very disappointed and shocked in the Cleveland Cavaliers. The MVP put up 49 points on 20-30 shooting, has to leave the court with cramps, exhaustion, a bloody knee, and you STILL lose?!! The rest of the team scores 57 points on 58 shots. Cleveland also let Orlando shoot 55% from the floor, 59% in the entire second half. Not spectacular for the L's top defensive team. After reading that stat LeBron said his team "deserved to lose." It's sad to see the same problem with Cleveland after all the hype during the regular season and thus far in the playoffs-LeBron comes ready to play, his team doesn't. I'm not saying the Cavs aren't the best team in the East, I still think they clearly are. I just think Orlando got lucky to be honest, they almost lulled Cleveland to sleep by going down 16. I mean hell, they still shot 51% in the first half and trailed by 14!! Not to take anything away from Orlando, they played a great game, but Cleveland should have won that game. It's a shame given everything The Chosen One did that it even came down to being that close. Look for Cleveland to come out and send a statement to Orlando in Game 2. The Cleveland locker room looked like someone had killed their dog. Don't expect them to sit back and let the game come. I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland reels off 4 W's in a row.
  • The Lakers-Nuggets game Tuesday night was a dandy. Denver had the game won. Take away missed free throws, and a terrible inbounds pass from a solid veteran (Anthony Carter) and I believe the outcome is very different in L.A. I don't think this loss hurt Denver as bad as people think. They weren't supposed to win, yet they had the game won, and then shot themselves in the foot to end up with a loss. It wasn't even that the Lakers BEAT them, Denver just lost. Game 2 should be a great game, I hope Denver wins so I don't have to hear it from the Mrs. about how she loves the Lakers and Kobe and blah blah blah. Hate.
  • In other L.A. news, the Clippers won the rights to the Blake Griffin sweepstakes Tuesday night. They already said they will choose the Oklahoma All-American, and I think he will be a great player in the NBA. The Clippers are an interesting team. Big Wil and I were talking about them yesterday, Baron Davis, Al Thornton, Chris Kamaan, Marcus Camby, add Blake Griffin and a solid 2G and some role players, that's a scary team right there. Then again, what am I saying, we're talking about the Clippers.
  • Michael Vick was released from prison yesterday to spend the last 2 months of his 23 month sentence under home confinement. He will be working for a construction company 40 hours a week for $10 an hour. He says he isn't focused on football at this time and wants to get his life back together. Roger Goodell also says he will have to meet with Vick face to face to see is he is truly apologetic and sincere in order to let him back in the NFL. Vick is doing the right thing, get your life back together before you put your focus on anything else. I hope he gets reinstated, comes back, and at least plays a small role for a team. He was such an electric player it would be a shame if his only lasting legacy was the negative one.
  • My boy Kid Searcy said he wanted some T.O. talk. I can always talk about some T.O. I love that man. In case you were under a rock, Terrell Owens is now up north playing for the Buffalo Bills. He has already made an impression, given he was a guest sportscaster on the local news station there in Buffalo. DJ asked who I think there is more pressure on, T.O. or the kid QB Trent Edwards? I believe in the short term, T.O. has more pressure. He has always been a reported disease in a locker room, reeking havoc to whichever team will take him. Thus, I think that if the Bills have a disappointing year, and he flares up at any time, he will take all the blame. Just like he did with the Cowboys, even though he wasn't the biggest problem. Tony Romo not winning a game past November is the problem, but that's another story for another day. Trent Edwards will get some of the blame being that he is the QB and much of the team's performance is on his shoulders. However, like I said, T.O. has more responsibility placed on him than any other player who only gets a maximum of 12 touches a game than perhaps anyone to ever play the game. I could be biased because like I said I respect and like T.O. and think he is portrayed very wrongly by the media.
That's all folks. Wilson's got your next insight. Tell your friends, we're getting this thing going again. T-shirts are in the works also, so get your mind right. Peace.

I'm A Slacker, I Know

Hello to the few of you are still reading this. I apologize for my melancholy welcome, I'm sure many of those who used to read have checked it less frequent do to the less frequent blogging. For that I apologize, and mine and HE's new 50/50 plan help the blog to run more smoothly and consistently. Let's get ready to rumble....
  • Last night in LA, the Lakers ended their second round series by beating the Houston Rockets 89-70. The score has a severe Eastern Conference feel due to the fact that the Lakers skipped the jabs and hooks, and started off the fight with a haymaker. By the end of the first half, the Lake show was up 51-31, and both teams just put the car in cruise control in the second half. I was hoping to see the Rox put up a better fight, but that extra spark never came into play once the lakers put their foot on Houston's throat. The Lakers will now face off with that team from Denver in the Western Conference Finals. Lots of talent and scoring will be on the floor for however many games this series will last, should produce some very exciting games. I'm really hoping to see a fight between Trevor Ariza and JR Smith. Lakers in no less than 6.
  • In part 2 of the Game 7s, the Orlando Magic beat the Boston Celtics 101-82 in Beantown. The C's clearly are NOT the same without the Big Ticket. They had no answer for Dwight Howard inside on either end of the court. The way D-How just sat there waiting for Kendrick Perkins to flail up a future blocked shot reminded me of when you are at the local park and you see the little kid who is playing with the adult who for some reason feels the need to actually try, and embarrassingly swats every ball that comes out of the young boy's hands. Except in this situation, they are both extremely tall professional basketball players. The man is a beast. Getting back to the game as a whole, I was surprised at how it ended. At the end of the third quarter, the Magic were up by a mere 4 points. I expected it to come down to the wire, with Paul Pierce hitting some clutch shots from the right elbow. Not the case. The Clovermen surrendered 35 fourth-quarter points to the Magic, while they themselves were only able to produce 21. Like I said, they Celtics clearly aren't the same without Kevin Garnett anchoring the D in the paint. I wonder if Paul Pierce still thinks he is the best player in the world? Stat of the night: Orlando was 13-21 from deep, an unusual 61.9%. Magic meet the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals, what happens when the King launches his body into the air only to see Superman waiting for him? The world might not live to see a replay.
  • I don't know if you guys have heard about this or not, but Super Bowl MVP James Harrison is refusing to go to the White House with the rest of his Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. He said something to the effect of, "If you want to meet the Pitt Steelers, invite us to your house when we don't win the Super Bowl. As far as I'm concerned, the Cardinals would have been invited too if they would have won." Really? I think this is one of the dumber things I have heard in a loooong time. I mean, he acts like it's debatable wether or not the Cards would have been invited had they won. No duh they would have been invited James, that's the whole point, you go because you won. I don't think Mr. O's deal is for the Steelers to go to the White House, I'm pretty sure it's for the Super Bowl Champions to go. It's an honor to go to the White House, so shut up and go.
  • Michael Phelps actually lost a race yesterday, don't have any details, but that guy that beat him must be on Cloud 9 right now.
  • Tony Kornheiser is leaving MNF, and Jon Gruden will be his replacement. I know many people are rejoicing in the streets about this, seeing as a large contingent thought Kornheiser was very bad at his job. I never had a huge issue with him, but then again I love hearing John Madden play the role of Captain Obvious.
  • Word on the screets is that if Brett Favre's surgery goes successful, odds are he will join the Minnesota Vikings. I like the idea of him on the Vikes, but I'm not down with the constant back and forth between retirement and acitvation. Make a decision and stick with it please Brett.
  • In track news, Usain Bolt set another world record in the 150M dash. I hope he can finish his career without a report saying he is juicing. Knowing today's sports world though, I wouldn't be surprised if he is.
  • Reggie Miller is bad at what he does.
That's all I have for today, HE's got you guys on the next post. Shout out to Marcin Gortat for first of all his dunk, second of all, that weird half basketball/Jordan sign tattoo he has on one of his calves.

Aloha,

Big Wil

Job Search Begins

Hola, sorry again for being lackluster with this bad boy, I don't think many of you look at it anyway, but oh you will. For starters, RI.P. to Wayman Tisdale. His 2 year battle with cancer ended this morning for the College Basketball Hall of Famer. He had his leg amputated a year ago, and was a ridiculously good musician. ESPN did a nice piece on him last December, and they've been replaying it on SportsCenter if you'd like to look at it. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
  • Ok so it took 5. The Nuggets look good. Don't get me wrong, the Mavs did not play their best basketball, but damn the Nuggets do look good. They really are a different team, and compared to the other top seed left in the West, they are the best team in the L as of now. Congrats Denver, it's been a long time.
  • I can't believe the Lakers-Rockets series is going to a Game 7. If you're the Lakers, how are you not licking your chops when you see Houston's top two centers in Yao and Dikembe in suits at the tip?! Not to take any credit away from the healthy Rockets because those guys have played their hearts out, but you know that the Lakers are way more talented than you guys are. I just don't get it. The Lakers are so talented and really could run through everyone, possibly including the Cavs, but for whatever reason they don't. It's unreal. I'm not mad though, they are possibly my least favorite team in the league. I'm not complimenting them when I say how talented they are, I'm just keeping it real.
  • Another Game 7 for the Celtics. Losing last night to the Magic in Orlando after a dominant performance by Dwight Howard (23/22) is nothing to frown about, except for the fact that you have to play another game. Let's say the Clovers win that, what's next? Oh yeah, the well rested and swept every playoff series this year and won every game by double digits, Cavs. Good luck to the Celtics...hell good luck to whoever wins that series...because you're losing the next series. Guaranteed.
  • In hockey news (no, we don't cover hockey), top seeded Bruins lost last night. Thus, leaving the Penguins as the top seed left in the East. Look for a Penguins-Red Wings Stanley Cup series, with the Penguins winning it all. The Kid will lead the way.
  • Excuse my french, but this has got to be said, and I know Big Wil supports me on this. That guy who runs UFC, Dana, is the cockiest, most selfish, rudest, most pompous ass I have ever seen/heard. He's getting all this air time now and yes he is the president of UFC, the fastest growing sport, but come on "bro", Affliction and TapOut run your world. You have no Fortune 500 backing and you're going to get on camera and basically tell them to F off?!! Are you serious?! I understand the numbers, the bottom line, how fast you've grown, chicks dig it, guys love it, but honestly, you aren't God's gift to this great Earth, and you aren't the man. I don't care if you can fight, I don't care what you've done, if it's that great, let your work speak for itself. Jackass. Man up and act like a professional, a businessman, not a fighter trying to take your fight to the corporate world.
  • Brett Favre is reportedly seeing a doctor about his torn right bicep and the necessary care to rid his problem. This guy just doesn't give it up. Yes he can still get it done, yes he can still break fingers with his passes, yes he still throws INT's like he's the beer guy tossing you cold ones at the game. But learn from your elders, give it up while you're on top. You are quickly losing your legacy with the Packers and just becoming that guy that won't quit. I know you're not about the fame and the drama, you're just a 67 year old kid. But use that wise brain, let it go Brett, let it go. Madden is done, you should be too.
Shout out today goes to Mr. Hudson. He's a UK artist who just signed with 'Ye. Mr. West says this young squire could be bigger than him. "Supernova" is the new jam, with 'Ye gettin on a verse to add a nice little touch. Check out the fire.
Love you babay.

He's Baaaaaack

What's up peeps, sorry I have been on leave for the last week or so. The combination of finals, HEs graduation, and a severe lack of sleep has kept me in the proverbial cave recently. Sorry for the absence, now it's summer and that means free time, which means blogging. Vamanos......
  • Shout out to myself for managing to sleep until 6PM, a feat most of you can only dream of accomplishing.
  • Congratulations to my brother for graduating from the most distinguished academic institution in the planet, the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. Getting a college degree is something that I feel is overlooked in today's society, so Brother youre a beast for doin' work over the last four years.
  • It's currently halftime of the Mavs game, and I am sick and tired of NBA refs on witch hunts for flagrant fouls and techs. After missing an offensive foul on Carmelo, the refs slapped JET with a flagrant and a tech for a foul that he barely had any part in. The call resulted in a five point swing for the Nuggets, giving them a ten point lead at the half. Refs are killin' me. Nugs are killin' me. This whole series is killin' me. As much as I want the Mavs to win this game, I feel like there is not much point given that they prob won't win this series. Love the Mavs, but considering no one has ever come back to win from 3-0, I don't like the odds. The Thugs have too much confidence, swagger, tenacity, and energy for the Mavs to salvage this series. Regardless, here's to the Mavs and the organization as a whole, always be number one in the heart.
  • I hate to say it, but I think I'm finally jumping on the Cavs bandwagon. The Lakers aren't giving as strong of a showing as I expected, and the Lebrontosaurus is a man on a mission. However, I would like to see the Cavs play a team that actually has a chance in the playoffs.
Eight minutes left in the second half, it's time for me to get back to watching, so here's a few shout outs.
  • Shout out to my boy BFlora, who "wishes his ERA was as low as his GPA." Wish you could be here watchin' the game with us buddy.
  • Shout out to Brian Scalabrine's headband, or as the men on TNT called it, the Skullabrine.
  • Shout out to Ron Artest's post game interviews, Brandon Roy is the best player he's ever seen.
Sorry for the brevity, expect more tomorrow when the Mavs aren't on.

Feels good to be back,

Big Wil

It's Been A Minute

It's been a while since I've done this, but I think it's like riding a bike--once you learn how, you never forget. I graduated from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas this past Saturday. The whole weekend went great, with my cousin being in town, and of course my family being there to help celebrate was awesome. Shout out to my mom for hooking me up with some nice suspenders, I was looking fly all day long Saturday. A lot of sports news has happened since last Wednesday, but I'm not even going to try to cover it all. I'm just gonna go off the dome and see what transpires, so let's put the past 4 years of school to work.
  • The Mavs are all but done after Saturday's debacle of a game. As I'm sure everyone knows, the game ended very awkwardly with the refs admitting that they blew the game and should have called a foul on Antoine Wright before 'Melo could get his game winning 3 pointer up and in. I saw a replay for the first time earlier today, and I can't believe I'm saying this but I don't agree with the refs saying the blew the game. Wright did a terrible job of selling the foul, he threw his hands in the air right after he slapped at the ball. If you are trying to foul intentionally, you make sure you foul and everyone, including the opponent, knows you are trying to foul. You make sure you do it to where 'Melo doesn't get a shot up and that it's hard enough to where there is no use of discretion by the official. I think the refs should have known that the Mavs were trying to foul and take that into account, but at the same time, Wright needs to do a better job of selling that foul and making sure it gets called. Cuban's remarks are a little outrageous, hands down he is the best Owner in the NBA, but this time I think he went a little overboard. You don't say anything to anyone's mom about their son, especially the hometown boy that is Kenyon Martin. If you don't know about that story, you might not want to. I'm sure K-Mart will take care of that little problem both on and off the court, he might have a couple of hard fouls up his sleeve tonight. Hopefully the Mavs can salvage one homecourt victory, but don't be surprised if the Nuggets close it out tonight.
  • Man what a roller coaster this LA-Houston series has been. With all the ejections and injuries, it's hard to think that they've only completed 4 games, and we're still right where we started with a 2-2 series tie going back to LA for game 5. The Rockets were very impressive coming out and manhandling the Lakers even without The Great Wall that is Yao Ming (out for the rest of the postseason with a broken foot). Aaron Brooks was superb scoring a playoff career-high 34 points, and also Shane Battier putting up 21. I look for the Lakers to win game 5 at home, and then after that I'm not really sure. It all depends on the Lakers, they are clearly the better team, it's just that for whatever reason they do not show up for games. It's like they need constant motivation. Let me remind you Lakers, you lost in the Finals last year, and on top of that, got completely demolished in the last game. Most confusing team in basketball, most talented also. Right now I see the Nuggets coming out of the West though, they are the toughest team in basketball right now.
  • The Cavs will take the Hawks out tonight. Sweep. Called it. Championship run.
  • I don't even want to reflect on the Boston-Orlando series. It's useless to talk about anyone in the East except the Cavs.
  • Brett Favre to the Vikings? Let's not even start this...
That wraps up everything I want to talk about. I know it's not everything in the sports world, but it's what I care the most about. Wilson is M.I.A., along with my lady. I'm out like a light.

I Am A Credible Resource

Ok, so I'm right. I guessed almost everything (except of course my Mavs). All the first games of the Conference Semifinals are now over, and analysis must be given.
  • The Mavs looked horrible last night. The final margin of victory was only 12 but if you watched the game, it was a lot more than that. We just don't look focused, we look like we're content playing in the 2nd round. On the other hand, Denver looks untouchable. They are easily the best team in the West right now. At home, when they get on a roll, they are the best team in the NBA, period. Shooters, drivers, slashers, hustle guys, depth, leaders, they got it all. Props again to Chauncey Billups and also to George Karl, their coach. He has stuck to his guns, preached defense, and even over-criticized his team but man are they playing well at the right time. Of course playoff series never really start until you lose a home game, but the Mavs need work and help, not to mention major adjustments and maybe a kick in the pants. Let's hope Howard is healthy, because Dirk putting up 35 and the bench putting up 50+ still doesn't even get a W, and not even a loss but a regular old butt kicking. I don't know, we need something.
  • What did I say about the Rockets-Lakers series? Please look back and tell me what I said. The NASAs match up really well with the Lakers and are able to contain Kobe and hold their own down low with the big men. The Rockets did not come out intimidated, did not hold anything back, and played well out in LA. I think the Lakers were shocked a bit, but not to the point where they threw the game. They just lost. Game 2 tonight will be very interesting, I look for the Lakers to win in a close game. But if somehow the Rockets can pull it off, and take a 2-0 lead going back to the 3rd coast, watch out now.
  • Boy did the Cavs come to play last night. A big night for their team with LeBron winning the MVP and getting handed the hardware, and giving up a dunk on the first play of the game to LeBron isn't going to get it done ATL. Also, I think a big play which set the tone for that game and perhaps the series, was to see LeBron dive after a loose ball, wrestle it away from Josh Smith, and get the break started which ended in a tip in by Varejao. That's great to see. Really good stuff from the humble LJ23. Like I said, that series could easily be a sweep, the Cavs have the eye of the tiger. They are poised yet aggressive, confident but not cocky. A championship run is inevitable for that team, as far as winning it, we'll have to see. They sure look ready, though.
  • The Magic pulled off a Game 1 mini-upset in Boston Monday night. Boston is tired, they need rest, and Superman came rested and ready to play. Interesting series, I think Boston is still the better team but with injuries and fatigue playing against them also, don't be surprised if Orlando dismantles them, and it could be quick. But like I said who really cares, the Cavs are coming out of the East.
  • Man Rick Ankiel I thought you were dead. If you haven't seen that replay, don't watch it. The St. Louis Cardinals centerfielder went after a fly ball at the warning track and stumbled into the wall head first. It looked terrible, and you could tell the devastation of the blow when his hat bill was bent the opposite way. I thought for sure he hurt his neck and/or his spine. Painful thing to see, but happy that he was only in the hospital one night and was at the game last night. Scary sight, but thankful that he's okay because he's a great player.
  • BoSox have the Yanks number. And on top of that, the Yanks are not playing well. They need to move Joba to the pen, he has dominant stuff but he doesn't have the longevity of a starter. Set up the Save Machine that is and has been Mariano Riviera, instead of being a 5th starter. My cousin told me there were chants of Torre at the game, that's funny to hear.
  • We don't talk hockey on this blog, but Sidney The Kid Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin put on a show the other night. The two best players in the world each recorded hat tricks that ended in a 4-3 Capitals win to take a 2-0 series lead. It was funny to see the 75-100 hats that Ovechkin got which happened to delay the game in order for the cleanup, as opposed to the one hat Crosby got. I think the ref scooped it up while the game was going on (not seriously), but very funny to see. Props to both, you want a great hockey game, that series is probably your best bet for one.
Shout out today goes to my lady. Congrats on your meeting with Ford Models, I told you they'd love you. Look for her taking over the world like Cindy Crawford or something like that. Let's just hope she doesn't leave me for Tom Brady, or Kobe Bryant. Kidding, I hope. That's all I got. I gotta go pick up some suspenders for my Graduation this Saturday. Gotta look fly.

Sorry, School Takes Priority

Apologies please, school has priority over this blog, even though my admiration for this blog is much more abundant. When this becomes/gets me a job, then this will take priority, til then its #4 on the list (wouldn't you like to know the top 3?) With that being said, a lot has happened since I last posted anything, and surprisingly I didn't get many comments on my last blog, which I thought was pretty legit and deep. Nevertheless, I'll stick to sports from now on...
  • The Mavs started their series with the red hot Denver Nuggets yesterday. I thought we came out very aggressive and poised, then I think we got a little too relaxed. Jason Kidd looked horrible, and honestly was the first time I've seen his age show on the court. He looked sloppy like he was just going through the motions, not precise and accurate like the #2 NBA career assist leader we've all come to know and love. The 20 TO's didn't help our cause, along with Damp and Josh getting hurt. They did not look good when they came back in the game; Damp looked intimidated and scared, so did Bass. In their defense, with Nene playing like he did yesterday why wouldn't they be? The Nuggs are a tough team to stop when they get going, in any way, shape, or form. Birdman coming off the bench is perfect for that team, he's a spark plug, especially on the defensive end, that compliments 6th Man Award runner up J.R. Smith very well. Those two off the bench really get Denver going, and both come in with a lot of energy and "balls to the wall" type of mentality. Look for the Mavs to come out strong in Game 2, I'm predicting another tough game, but Slick Rick is usually pretty good and making adjustments, so look for the Mavs to play better, crisper ball. 102-97 Mavs.
  • Watching the Celtics-Magic series right now as I type. Boston looks tired, but they're a veteran team, I wouldn't be surprised either way this series goes. Orlando is quietly getting strong again, it looked dim for them down 2-1 to the Sixers, but then to run off 3 straight and win that series going away, the last without Superman Dwight Howard ("shoulders" to you Miss La) is very impressive. I guess I'm rooting for the Magic, nah maybe the Celtics. I don't know, who cares, the Cavs will win the East.
  • Speaking of, big ups to my man LeBron. The Chosen One himself was named NBA MVP earlier today, and it is very much deserved. Besides Kobe, and even so arguably the best offensive player in the league (7 triple doubles on the year), and also being Defensive Player of the Year runner-up. We haven't seen the dominance on both sides of the court like this since...dare I say...MJ23? I'm not saying he's him, because he isn't, but he does wear 23 for a reason...They could sweep the Hawks, if not then it's done in 5.
  • Lakers and Rockets could actually turn out to be a good series. I very much dislike both teams, but they actually match up well. With the Rockets being able to throw multiple worthy defenders at Kobe, and a frontcourt that is able to hang with the palm trees out in LA. It could go to 7, but I'm taking the Lakers in 6.
  • My condolences (I don't know if that's spelled right) to the Dallas Cowboys organization. The roof of the practice facility collapsed during rookie camp this past week, paralyzing a scout for the Boys and injuring several others. The video footage was very scary to see. Thoughts and prayers go out to them.
  • In boxing news, the British...female dog...that is Ricky Hatton got stomped by Manny Pac, with a 2nd round TKO. He made $12 million dollars for less than 5 minutes in the ring (Hatton made $8M). Floyd Mayweather is making a comeback also, fighting Manny's rival this summer, look for Money Mayweather to win that bout to set up a life saver match for boxing in early 2010.
That's all I got. Finished up my last spring semester today, so far have an A and 2 B's, and I thought I was going to get all C's, go figure. Shout out to my cuz, be good be safe, good to have you home and talk to you on a daily basis. That's all folks.

Apologies and Astonishment

Sorry I haven't been very active guys, a lot going on recently with a big paper and other school stuff, expect me to get back on track soon. Just some quick thoughts...
  • I was told by a friend that a reputable source told him that former U of Arkansas back-up QB Alex Mortensen is signed with the Tennessee Titans as of today. Yes I said it.... Alex Mortensen. I really shouldn't say anything because I never got to see him play....just like every other razorback fan. Maybe his pops talked to ex-Titan GM Floyd Reese on the ESPN set and got him to pull some strings, just speculation.
  • Also, ex-Razorback QB, and Allen HS product Casey Dick will attend mini-camp for the NY Jets. Once again, surprising. It's good to know that Razorback QBs are getting shots at the big time, I just wish they could have displayed pro-level talent while in Fayetteville. Don't let me be a hater though, congrats Mort and Casey, you have made it further than most others.
  • Nice report on Obama, HE, I like what you're saying and you make some great points.
  • Everyone needs to go to www.morethanagamemovie.com to watch the preview of the LeBron flick coming out. Looks like a heater.
  • Mavs-Nugs starts this Sunday, Go Mavs.
That's all I got right now, just wanted to put down some quick points to let everyone know I'm still alive. Things could be slow in the coming week due to final exams. Have no fear, the blog is still here.

Avoid the swine flu,

Big Wil

As I Said...

I got some real issues to talk about today, not sports but real life stuff, but of course, gotta get to the sports first...
  • All hail the Dallas Mavericks. Not withstanding that in his postgame interview, JET talked about the urgency of this year being that Kidd is not coming back next year? the Mavs straight up worked the Spurs. I posted in one of my early blogs that the Lakers and Cavs were toying with their respected first round opponents, and I would like to add the Mavs to that category for Game 5. Everytime the Spurs got close, Dallas would pull right back ahead. Spurs within 8, 3 pointer by the Mavs, Spurs within 5, 6-0 run by the Mavs. Just messing with them, "puppeteering" I believe was the word I used. Props to the Mavs, great to see you guys back in the mix. No one thought we could do it, the key ingredients are still there, just now we don't have a bullseye on our back. Congratulations to Mark Cuban too, best owner in basketball.
  • Lakers win and move on, Rockets win and move on, pretty sure I called those, you guys can check me on that but I think I did.
  • Shout out to Miss La, she's having a rough day/week, so remember I love you and it's all good baby.
  • Shout out to BJ, he's still en route to the States, so keep praying for his safety and quick return.
Alright, this is where I'm going to get real. I'm currently texting my good friend and brother Derian (DJ) Searcy about a rather small yet very significant topic I just came across on my USA Today iPhone app. "Obama seeks to change crack sentences". I don't think many of you understand and perhaps just don't know about this little area of discussion in terms or punishment for crimes. Obama is seeking to reduce the jail sentence in crack dealer, as opposed to powdered cocaine dealers. Let me enlighten you and why this is a big deal, and hopefully just the tip of the iceberg. Lawyers call it a "100-1" ratio where a person selling 5 grams of crack gets the same 5 year mandatory sentence as a person selling 500 grams of powdered cocaine. In other words, 500 gram dealer and 5 gram dealer get the same sentence. Now I don't know about crack cocaine, the only place I've ever seen it is in the movies, I don't know anything about it. But I know people mess up. I know people gotta do stupid, illegal things to get by. I also know these people are mostly if not SOMETIMES good, honest people. Perhaps just trying to make a living, feed their family, or perhaps just got mixed up, wrong place wrong time type of thing. Let's dive a little deeper though. An 18 year old gets caught with 5 grams of crack, he goes to jail for the minimum 5 years, comes out at 23 years old with no education, no money, and FELONY on his record. He's screwed, right there, especially in today's economy, that young man (82% black, 9% white--based on facts) is screwed. No education, no money, no job, and he's a felon. You know just as well as I do, he's gonna have to make ends meet doing something, and since he's limited not entirely but some to this "100-1 rule", it will probably be illegal.

Let's change it up, same 18 year old gets caught with 5 grams of crack, but only goes to jail for 1-2 years, and no felony, reduced to a misdemeanor. He gets out at 19-20, still has time to go to school, or even an entry level position, and now he isn't a felon, he's a regular joe who just got mixed up. He's out, bettering himself by going to get an education and turn things around, or getting a job to provide for himself and his family. Multiply that young man by the hundreds of thousands that are locked up in jails and prisons right now serving this sentence--the impact is humongous. Not only on individuals and people, but on this country, on this economy, on our civilization. I cannot stress how big this seemingly slight reduction is for Americans and for America. Do not get me wrong, I'm not saying anything positive about drugs or trafficking, nor am I saying that I am above it by any means, but I understand that people get mixed up, hell the country gets mixed up, but the "100-1" ratio and its sentencing is absurd, and I'm happy to know that someone has finally looked upon it and taken action.

Let that whole thing marinate on the domepiece for a bit, I'm not even going to get into what this could do for the sports world.

That's my political talk for the day, that's what I think. If you agree, great, if you completely disagree, then that's great too. That's why this country is great. Just don't judge me by it.

That's all my raving and ranting for the day, more sports to come in the future, sorry had to get off track a bit today. I gotta go watch the American Idol that I DVR'ed last night, and then study of course. Over and out.

G'Day Mates

Merry Monday to you all. My camping trip was great, besides not having lighter fluid, wood, stakes (only until we found them), a hammer, and grilling tools. We made it work, and it was great, props to Miss La, much love to you. I missed almost everything Saturday but of course got caught up on Sunday.
  • Some notes from the NFL Draft--1. What the hell are the Raiders doing? I mean Heyward-Bey looks freakishly good...ON PAPER! He's 6-1, 210, with a 4.3 40 time. However, using those stats is liking judging a person's intelligence by their GPA. Don't get me wrong, he has potential, he has to with the credentials he has, but honestly, did he deserve to be the #1 WR taken? Not at all, Crabtree, Maclin, maybe even Nicks out of UNC should have gone before that. 2. Good for the JETS, I mean everyone is in love with their trade to take Sanchez, and as I've said I'm skeptical about Sanchez as an NFL starter, but I guess 3 years down the road I can be completely right...or completely wrong. 3. Jeremy Maclin to the Eagles is a somewhat scary thought, Maclin and the pompous bastard from Cal that is DeSean Jackson are a scary, young tandem for the Eagles. 4. Very complete draft, I think a lot of players drafted in the later rounds will eventually be big names in the NFL (LeSean McCoy, Rashad Johnson, Javon Ringer, Rhett Bomar haaaaahahahah jk remember him?!)
  • Since my lazy co-author decided to dedicate his blog to NBA Playoffs, and for the most part I agree, I'm going to go very light on that subject. Stopping Tony Parker is STILL the Mavs #1 priority Wilson, why was it so close at half? Lakers will close tonight, Denver will take a 3-1 lead, Mavs will close the series out in 5, Celtics in 7, Heat in 6, Rockets win in 5. Rest Lebron & Co.
  • In other news, the ex-Nets NBA player Jayson Williams was tasered and hospitalized for mental issues this weekend after reports of suicidal activity going on in a Manhattan hotel. Police and a mental health unit arrived and tasered Williams, and took him to the hospital for mental tests. Williams was recently divorced by his wife for being abusive and a drug addict, and also has a pending retrial going on after he tried to cover up the shooting of his ex-driver, after the driver was shot in the head with a shotgun. Keep that negative train rolling Jayson, maybe one of these days you'll hit rock bottom and have nowhere to go but up.
That's all I got for today, my cousin is on his way home for leave, so give your thoughts and prayers for his safe and swift travel. Shout out to Mexico City, because of the swine flu my dad Big Hank won't be making his trip to the land of Dos Equis XX and they aren't letting people leave the country, so props to that. Clean the air down there too, looks like a permanent thunderstorm over that city. I'm sure I'll be back later, if not, then tomorrow. Chao

Weekend Wrap: NBA Playoffs

Ladies and Gents I apologize for my absence on Fri. and Sat., I got lazy and spent most of my time sleeping, watching basketball, and going to that thing they call class. With that being said, time to shed some light on the weekend in hoops....
  • The Cavs-Pistons series came to a close today as the King's Men completed the first round sweep with a 99-78 win in Detroit. Not only does this end the Piston's season, but it also ends the recent monopoly they have had over the Eastern Conference. Over the last 5-10 years, the Pistons making it to the Eastern Conference Finals was about as regular of an occurrence as the sun rising in the morning. Some years ago when asked when their reign over the East would end, Joe Dumars said, "when our bigs no longer dominate the game." That's obviously the case now as the once-defensive beast Ben Wallace is long gone, along with the afro, and Rasheed is still talented, but not the same player he was back then. Multiple coaching changes, decline of the inside game, and the departure of Chauncey Billups are the reasons why this empire is no more. It's a sad day to the see Pistons gone in the first round, I always had much respect for the defense and team concept. DEEEETROIIIITTT BASKETBALLLLL.
  • Where one run ends, another begins, as my camping co-blogger has said, the East will now be owned by the Cavaliers.
  • Celtics-Bulls: I LOVE this series. After a game three shellacking, the Bulls came out and endured a dog-fight to defend their home court, evening the series at 2-2 with a double overtime victory at the United Center. Rajon Rondo is the player of this series, he had a triple-double today, and has two total for the series. On the opposite side of the court, Derrick Rose was one assist shy of the triple-double feat himself. I'm a huge fan of Derrick Rose; I'm amazed by his quickness and athleticism every time I watch him play. This point guard matchup is making this series what it is, and I hope it can blossom into an annual contest between these two. As much as I ooze over this series and think it should go seven, I can't say it would be the same if the Big Ticket were playing. KG anchors that Celtic D, and with him on the court, I don't think they would have some of the same defensive fallacies they are experiencing in late game situations that allow the Bulls to stay in/win games. His vocality and leadership is desperately needed at times. He can yell from the bench all he wants in his clean sweater-n-suit combos, but it's not the same without him in the paint.
  • I'm currently watching the Magic-Sixers game right now, and Orlando is up 4 with 2:45 left to play. This would be incredible for Philly if they can take a 3-1 series lead tonight. Props to Thaddeus Young in Game 3 for that game-winner over Superman.
  • I have been disappointed in my man Joe and his Hawks. They are in a 2-1 hole against DWade and the Heat. I know everyone thinks Dwyane Wade is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but somebody please stop this man and his team. Game 4 is tomorrow and I'm hoping for better results than Game 3. Go Hawks, put your pieces together and make it happen.
  • The Lakers will look to close out their series against the Jazz tomorrow night in LA. After a poor shooting night in Game 3 (5-24), Kobe flipped the script as they say in Game 4, torching the Jazz with 38 on 16-24 shooting. Utah looked good in their one victory; however, I don't think great games out of D-Wil and Boozer will be enough to come back and win this series. I see the Lakers delivering the knockout punch tomorrow night at Staples.
  • I know I should, but I really just don't want to talk about the Nuggets-Hornets series. I like very few people involved in that whole thing.
  • Houston and Portland game 4 tonight, and Houston can put a stranglehold on this thing with a W. A vic puts the Rox up 3-1, and I don't think Portland has the experience to come back from that kinda deficit in the playoffs.
  • Magic-Sixers game just ended, Hedo Turkoglu with the game-winning three with 1.1 seconds left. Series tied at 2-2. I guess he really is the Turkish Michael Jordan huh?
  • Now to the first round series with any significance, Mavs-Spurs. Game four was yesterday in the Dirty D, and not to my surprise, the Mavs came out and all but ended the series with a 99-90 victory. Ironic stat of the night: the winning team shot 38%. Show me a team that can beat the Spurs shooting 38%, and I'll show you a Spurs team that isn't the same as it used to be. San Antonio really does not have a lot going for them once they get past Parker and Duncan. Tony Parker put it well when he told ESPN, "[Dallas] has more weapons than us."  And one of those weapons, many call him the X-factor of the series (told you HE), is Josh Howard. Ankle injury? What ankle injury? As Mars Blackmon would say "Money, it's gotta be the shoes" (Jordan commercial, Josh wears Jordans, get me?) . They can slow down Dirk, force Terry into tough shots, deter JJ from getting in the paint, but they can't take the man from Wake out of his game. I really feel like this series is the Mavs' for the taking, so go ahead and take it fellas.
  • Shout out to Ryan Hollins for giving some crucial minutes in the second half, the three blocks and put-back dunk were HUGE, not to mention the 8 boards (4 offensive).
That's what your boy here thinks about what's going on in the hoops world. Props to Dr. James A. Naismith for creating the game.

Keep it real homies,

So I Lied...

Ok so I lied, I didn't go camping last night, but I am going tonight, I'm getting this in real quick before we leave. Call me Brad Paisley because again I'm waitin' on a woman. Let's get into it...
  • The Cavs have all but eliminated the Pistons. How many dunks and lay-ups did the Cavs get last night? They had lay-up lines going on in The Palace, like me and my boys used to do on the low goal back in the day (which was a Wednesday). Lebron was 7-7 when going to the lane, but only 2-12 when not, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out where his strength is, if he gets a consistent shot, like a Jordan or Kobe shot, he will be absolutely unguardable. He was also one assist shy of a triple double (25-11-9), while Mo Williams had only 2 points. Richard Hamilton was saying in his post-game how upset and frustrated he is at the Pistons downfall, but you can't stay at the top forever, especially in the NBA. They had a good run, a great run, but that is definently over, just like Jordan was the demise of the Pistons in the '90s, Lebron is their downfall in the '00s.
  • Thaddeus Young, welcome to the NBA Playoffs. The supposed-to-be Arkansas Razorback (who cares where he really went to college), had a monster shot last night over Dwight Howard to win the game for the 76ers and take a 2-1 game lead over the 3 seed Magic. The 76ers have a nice little team, Young, Lou Williams, Iguodala, Dalembert, the vets such as Andre Miller and of course Donyell Marshall, where the hell did he come from?! I even saw the 78 year old dunk the ball last night, good for him. Don't be surprised, especially now, if the 76ers pull a slight upset and beat the Magic in Round 1. Stan Van Gundy has to go, he's not that great of a coach, and personally he would give me a heart attack if I played for him, and I'm a pretty calm player. But props to Thaddeus Young, (and you too BJ), that was a big shot.
  • Big lineup as far as the NBA Playoffs go today, most importantly the Mavs-other team game at 3ET. I hope the Mavs don't come out too confident, we'll see.
  • The NFL Draft is today also, the Lions wrapped up their #1 pick yesterday selecting Matt Stafford as the recipient of a 6-year $80,000,000 deal with $41,000,000 guaranteed. I just wanted to show you all how many zeroes this young man is getting, even though he's already from Highland Park. Great story on Michael Oher out of Ole Miss, if you haven't heard that story, get to ESPN and read it. Great story, great kid, very humbling to hear something like that.
  • Michael Young is beasting, 3 game-tying or winning HRs in the last week, the most recent coming last night in a 5-4 over Baltimore with a 2-run HR in the top of the 9th with 2 outs. They move him to 3rd base and suddenly he hits like one, go figure.
  • Saw some pretty good flicks lately, shout out to Larry the Cable Guy, I could watch him the rest of my life, Miss La and I were crying watching his stand up the other night, great stuff. And most recently Seven Pounds and Notorious. Seven Pounds starring Will Smith was a great movie, one of those you don't understand until the very end, but still very good. No I didn't cry. As far as Notorious, whatever the actor's name is that plays BIG does a great job, and it's a good movie (cheesy at times), until the very end when they show real footage of Biggie's funeral. It's amazing how many lives him and Tupac touched, especially given what and how they got their word out. That movie tells you a lot about the power of music and lyric, and also passion and ambition. If you're a fan of hip-hop, or even if you're not, I suggest it.

That's all I got for now. I hear Coors Light calling my name. My shout out today goes out to my Uncle Brad (UB). He sent out a very powerful email bright and early this morning, which really made you think and also realize how much and what he thinks of his in-house family situation. Not only did he give a shout out to this blog (haha just a joke, not the point of the email or my reason for liking it), but one thing UB does is tell it like it is. I appreciate that, respect it, and listen to it. We're behind you, and continue to pray for those fighting, and still fighting, if you don't know I can't tell you how serious it is for those fighting over in that hell-hole of a place we've created. Good Saturday to all. I gotta get my suit on and my cooler filled, with Coke of course. Big Wil where you at?! You're slackin on ya pimpin...pimpin. Love, Peace, and Beer.

Listen Up Now

I got nothing to start with for today, so like Marvin Gaye "Let's Get It On"...
  • That high school BOY going overseas. Yeah Big Wil I got some thoughts on that--unreal. This kid is 17 years old, in high school, about to go into his senior year, not to mention the long, great summer season that is AAU Boys Basketball, and lives in San Diego. And you're going to tell me he's bored with high school ball? He lives in San Diego! That's in California! And he's 17!! He's going to go overseas, and play with MEN, not boys, not college kids, MEN. Take a lesson from your predecessor Brandon Jennings, who has been telling NY Times that it was a mistake for him to go to Europe, and that he is mistreated and really hasn't learned much except that the world is a lot harsher than he originally thought, even if he does have a 7" fro and sick handles. Take a lesson here son, stay in San Diego, have fun with recruiting, you're first choice is Louisville, you don't think Rick Pitino can teach you a thing or two about the NBA? Wake up and smell the cigarettes, because if you go overseas that's all you're gonna smell.
  • Now that nonsense is over, let's talk MAVS. I checked the score with 1:38 left in the 3rd Q and the score was 70-38....no that is not a typo, 70-38. The black and silver team didn't even have 40 points until the very end of the 3rd quarter!! It's considered a bad half in the NBA if you don't have 40 by halftime. Was it the Mavs D? Or just crappy O by the B&S? Whatever the reason, I was elated. Two scorers in double figures for them, one (Oberto) because of trash minutes at the end of the game, the other was Parker with 12?!! Meanwhile, the Mavs had 5 in double figures led by Dirk with 20, and held the Spurs to 16, 14, and 12 points in the first 3 quarters, respectively. This is Mavs basketball, this is what I remember from the glory days of '05-'07. WHEN the Mavs take Game 4 Saturday, consider this series a closed deal. I was predicting Mavs in 6, now with the way things are shaping out, I might take them in 5.
  • What happened to the Baby Bulls last night? If you strictly watched highlights, you would have thought the Bulls had their game going, all I saw was Tyrus Thomas flying through the air, Ben Gordon shooting the rock, and Rose streaking down the court like he had thorns in his butt, but that's why highlights are just that, highlights, not outcomes. Jordan's former better come prepared in Game 4, or they could lose the finger they have left grasping this series.
  • AS I POSTED YESTERDAY, I gave a warning to the Lakers as they headed into Salt Lake to play the Jazz. It's a very tough place to play, and add to the fact that Kobe was way off all night (5-24 from the field), and Bynum had 5 fouls in 7 minutes (props to Big Wil), with 4 points (props to HeMan). In addition, the Lakers shot 36% from the field and a very dismal 62% from the line. On a positive note, even with all that, it took a last second shot by Deron Williams, along with picture perfect defense by the hometown boy Ronnie Brewer(even though he hit on my lady). I look for the Lakers to come out looking for blood in Game 4, they don't like to lose, especially to Utah in the playoffs.

I got class now, and might not be back later although there is still a lot to talk about, I'm going camping with my girlie tonight, so shout out to WalMart for hooking me up with a fresh tent, and also Coors Brewing Company, you guys make a great light beer. See you on the flipside.

Hustlenomics

The title of this post has nothing to do with the information it contains, I only used it because I'm in microeconomics right now.  In other news...
  • As I sat at lunch today I was very disappointed to check ESPNmobile and find that the Chiefs traded Tony Gonzalez to the Atlanta Falcons for a second round draft pick in 2010. This is sad for me to see, because for as long as I can remember I have seen Gonz in a Cheifs jersey, always being the one constant source of positivity for that team. However, if I'm a Falcons fan, I'm very happy with this deal. Gonzalez can come in and fill the hole left by Alge Crumpler a couple of years ago. Also, it gives young quarterback Matt Ryan a big, reliable, veteran target to throw to in times of need. As last year's stats will tell you, Ryan has a good thing going with Roddy White, but didn't appear to target anyone else too often. Now with Gonzalez roaming the middle of the field, it will force the D to honor the inside and short passes, allowing Roddy White to use the burners to stretch the field.
  • Stephen Curry, Wayne Ellington, and Ty Lawson have all declared for the NBA Draft. Lett's break it down one by one. Stephen Curry looks like he is pushing 15 years old. With that being said, the guy has a sweet stroke, nice court vision, and apparent leadership qualities. He's got the talent to be on an NBA roster, but I'm not sure what his minutes will look like at the next level. If I were him, I would stay another year and solidify myself as a lottery pick. If he stays, I feel like him and my arch nemesis Willie Warren will be in the argument for best guard in the nation. Then again, no one is flashing millions of dollars in my face so what do I know. As far as Ellington and Lawson though, I feel like they are making a good decision. They put together an impressive tournament run, and with Hansbrough and Green leaving, that team will not be the same next year. Going now would allow them to leave at the top of their games as well as the top of their hype. I have a personal bias to Lawson for two reasons: 1) I feel like he runs the break with such speed and ease that it is a beauty to watch, and 2) I got a chance to meet him when BFlo and myself were in the Bahamas. We spotted him at the bar and at the craps table, and was a cool guy when we talked to him.
  • HUGE game tonight in the D. The night will be so hot people will be pullin up on camels. I want nothing more than to be in the house that Cuban built to see the Mavs secure a 2-1 lead in this series. JET is going to have the crowd in the palm of his hand as always, and Dirk will remain at rest no more. I love my team at home, especially in the playoffs, especially against the Spurs. The only way I see the Mavericks taking a loss tonight is if Bass manages to destroy the regular backboard AND the safety backboard with a couple of throw downs similar to Fat Man and Little Boy. Nothing else need be said about tonight's matchup. Oh wait... play James Singleton!!
  • Bulls-C's tonight in Chi-Town, and I like the the Baby Bulls. I agree with everything my brother has to say about this series, except for his insults to Derrick Rose's intelligence. I don't think he is dumb, I think he may just be a little camera shy, and the man is a rookie after all. In the words of Bill Murray in Space Jam, " Go Bulls".
  • 17 year-old HS hoopster Jeremy Tyler has decided to forgo his senior year to go play basketball overseas. I don't know how smart it is for a 17 year-old kid to go to a foreign country to make hundreds of thousands of dollars playing professional sports, but I don't know any inside details of the situation. Any thoughts?
That's all for now folks, time for me to prepare my Pi Beta Phis to take a powderpuff championship. Shout out to the girl sitting in front of me rockin' an Ian Kinsler authentic, I'm impressed.

Do what you do,

Big Wil

BECOME A FOLLOWER!

Good afternoon. Please, if you follow this blog and like to read it, please become a follower, just to the right here at the top of the site. It's quick, easy, free, and is awesome to see it growing and how many people like to read this (if any). Also, if you have comments or questions, agreements, disagreements, please feel free to speak your voice, that's what this is for. J'mone...
  • Mavs-Spurs Game 3 is tonight. A very big game, and one I think is set up great for the home-team given they won Game 1. Win Game 3 tonight, set up momentum and a harsh crowd for Game 4, win that, and go back to SA with a 3-1 lead. Series over, in 6. I believe this will happen, and as I've said before, CONTAIN TONY PARKER. Damp recently took back his statement he made about Parker, but did not necessarily back down. Smart for Damp, no one wants a fine from the NBA, especially when you're just venting your frustrations in a very emotional point in the season. The Mavs bench needs to show up again, and perhaps Dirk can give us more than he did in SA. Given all these things, look for a relatively easy playoff win for the Mavs.
  • Watch out for Chicago tonight, that place will be rockin'. I would not want to be on the Celtics squad tonight, I hope they know what's coming. Same for LA, although not to the same extent. Utah has been a very difficult place to play for the last few years and given they got it within a couple of possessions at the end of Game 2 in LA does give Utah some hope. But if the Lakers come to play, don't look for an upset out in Mormon land.
  • Stephen Curry along with the UNC backcourt of Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington decided today to go pro. I'm not completely sold on any of these NBA prospects, no doubt each dominated the college game, but Lawson and Curry both seem a little small for the NBA liking, and Ellington in my opinion just is not as good as he seems. I'm not sure, time will tell for these three.
  • Quick shout out to JET for winning 6th Man, I've forgot to post anything about that in my prior blogs simply because I knew he was going to get it, and it was already done in HemanLand. Props though, very much deserved for Jason Eugene Terry.
  • High School hoop star Xavier Henry chose Kansas University today after relinquishing his intent to go to Memphis under then coach John Calipari. Scary scary stuff for the Big 12 and the rest of the country. Besides him getting straight posterized by Willie Warren (YouTube--Willie Warren Dunk of the Day), he seems to be a legit, very skilled player out of Oklahoma. Don't think he'll be standing in the lane next year though when Willie comes beasting down the lane, again. Watch the video, you'll understand.
  • Speaking of scary, Tony Gonzalez to the Falcons. Let me give you that "one mo' 'gin"...Tony Gonzalez to the Falcons. Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, Jerious Norwood, and now Tony Gonzalez?! A pro's pro, with a slight chip on his shoulder after being with the KC Chefs for so long, coming to a young, very talented team could bring the Dirty Bird back to the ATL. Congrats to Tony also, I know he's been talking about leaving KC for a "hot minute" as the kids say.
  • Mark Sanchez? I want to take a vote to see who thinks he will be one of the next great QB's in the NFL, because I honestly don't see it. I posted yesterday my concerns for Stafford, and I have even more for Sanchez. There were many reports last fall about Sanchez not being the best QB out in Southern Cal, but got the nod simply because he had waited his turn, which is the lay of the land out in Pasadena. I just don't know, I don't see it. Speaking of Stafford, great article on Stafford in the Sports section of USA Today, today. I can't remember his name off the top of the domepiece (that's slang for "head") but the last QB to win a championship with the Lions was Bobby Layne, the same guy who was the last QB to win a Texas State Championship with non-other than...Highland Park, before Stafford of course. How ironic is that?
  • Just saw Greg Paulus, the ex-Duke point guard, is going to join the Syracuse football program. I don't have time to speak on that. Absurd.
That's all I got for now, big sports day today. Shout out to Kid Cudi, no real reason why I'm just bobbin' and weavin' to his jams right now, so props to the KID. Possibly be back later, depends on the Mavs game. I'm off like some bug spray.

MY Turn

Sorry for the lateness of the post ladies and gentlemen, my day was filled with class, much-needed napping, and an unsuccessful attempt at an intramural sand volleyball championship. Thanks again for all the viewings and comments, you guys are awesome. With that being said, let me get 'em...
  • I agree with BJ that there has not been dominance like this since MJ, but I'm still unsure if LeBron is the closest thing to Jordan. As a preface, I prefer LeBrontosaurus over Kobe any day of the week. With that being said, I tend to put MJ's game closer to Kobe's than the King's. Although Lebron has unbounded talent, I feel most of his dominance is based on unmatched physical ability. On the other hand, most of Kobe's game comes from pure skill and finesse. For this reason I feel like his game  is closer to Mike's. However, Lebron is showing early signs of the same leadership and maturity that Jordan had. They both have qualities similar to that of His Airness. On second thought, back then, was MJ that athletic equivalent of Bron today? Just a little something to chew on. This whole conversation can go for years, and I'm just confusing myself, so I will end it by saying that both Kobe and Bron resemble MJ in some way, yet neither is on the same level as him at this point.
  • Continuing, I do believe that it is now LeBron's league, but I don't think the Larry O'Brien trophy will spend its offseason in Cleveland. The Lakers are too big, too versatile, and overall just too good. A front line of Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum is too much for the Cavs down low. And we must not forget that there is the Black Mamba. Kobe, with that lineup and my man D-Fish, is too much for Cleveland to handle. The Cavs are a great team, and they have the pieces in place, but I honestly feel like this year it's going to the Lakers. Just an opinion from the peanut gallery.
  • I want to rant for a second about star treatment in the NBA. Fortunately since I was busy tonight, I didn't have to watch DWade or Chris Paul have their backs rubbed and heads massaged by the refs. I know the men in stripes are good at what they do, but they give those two more undeserved calls than a telemarketer. I have seen both CP3 and Flash play in person, and I find it ridiculous that these guys seriously get every call there is. In the '06 Finals against the Mavs, Wade averaged 16 FTs a game, that's unheard of. I don't know any stats off the top of my head for Paul, but I'm sure their is something out there to validate my point. Just some stuff I have noticed, keep it in mind next time you watch them play.
  • Shouts out to Derrick Rose for ROY, and JasonEugeneTerry for Sixth Man.
  • It's sad to see Dikembe Mutombo's career end, thanks for the finger wags Dikembe, they will be greatly missed.
  • With the NFL Draft upon us this weekend, I want to make a point to say that 40-yard dash times are the most overrated statistics in sports. Those things are thrown around way too much in terms of a prospect's draft stock and overall talent. Running 40 straight yards with scouts around is nowhere close to the same as running on the field, in pads, with guys like Ray Lewis trying to kill you. If you want to know how fast a guy is, go watch his film. Combine heroes are looked too highly upon every year, if you want to know what a guy can really do come Sunday, look at his game film! Felix Jones did not have the fastest 40 time ever, but when was the last time you saw anyone catch that man? As the great Kat Williams would say, "Not Never".
  • I want to make a shout out to the Dos Equis proclaimed Most Interesting Man Alive. The only man who ever made a moment awkward just to see what it felt like. He's a lover, not a fighter....but don't test him, because he's also a fighter.
I'm done for now sports fans, sorry if some of my points were all over the place and got a little confusing. I'm out like I just took a third strike.

Keep it real and always keep things in perspective,

Big Wil

Thanks to Rico

Rico-I thought so as well, I was trying to put my Shakespearean (spelling?) touch on that, Lebron IS poetry haha. I'll keep this one short and sweet (thick and petite--Kid Cudi) since my earlier blog was lengthy.
  • Detroit Lions are reportedly in contract negotiations with Matthew Stafford. Now I don't know about Stafford as a franchise QB, all I know is that he's from Highland Park which is just south of my hometown of Plano. And I also know that every year when my high school scrimmaged HP, he would sit out, not even show up. And I know he went to Georgia and wrecked shop. Supposedly the contract is somewhere in the range of 80M with 40M guaranteed. Unbelieveable.
  • Just watched the Heat beat the Hawks. How athletic are the freakin Hawks?! Charles Barkley made a good point about them though, they just give the ball to a different player and say "ok, you're turn" when they're on offense. That won't get you very far in the National Basketball Association. And even though I despise D-Wade because of the '06 Finals, he is a beast. Very good player, and very very lucky.
  • Sorry to see Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai head home from American Idol this week, I know I'm a loser for watching it but whatever.

That's all I got for today. More to come tomorrow. Classes are almost done, yippee. Oh, shout out today to my teacher Dr. Finn, he said he was having a bad day today, maybe it's because I was doing a crossword during his class today, which he caught and scolded me for doing. I have a 97 and 83 on his tests though, when most people don't, so jokes on him. Hasta luego amigos.

Big Wil where you at?

Let's blog

Again, thanks to everyone for the comments and spreading the word about our blog. Please continue to tell your friends so we can get more and more people reading this bad boy. We had some great comments, and some of those I will address in this post, let's get it on.
  • Let's talk Cavs. My cousin (our cousin really) posted a comment about really the Cavs organization, and in response to that, I would like to dive a little deeper into what he said. If you're looking for his comment, it is under "Comments" in response to my post yesterday (4/20). I agree with the fact that Lebron is a man, a force, and quickly becoming the BEST player in the NBA. For gosh sakes, he took 3 steps from outside the 3 point line and did a 2 handed windmill with ease...3 STEPS!! Never before have I seen a player resemble Jordan as closely as Lebron has. Jordan, to me, will always be the best basketball player to ever play the game, period. I feel like Lebron will be in that conversation before his career is done. He really looks like a had playing on a playground, jumping around, swinging from whatever he can, and really just looking like a kid in a candy store, like perhaps he created the NBA and everyone in it for his own enjoyment. However, just like Jordan, Lebron realized, fortunately for him very early, that he cannot win alone. So he asked for help. Ask Chosen One, and you shall receive. Danny Ferry, along with Coach Mike Brown, and the rest of the Cavs office, have done a superb job fitting the right pieces to the puzzle that is Lebron. On paper, this team is not as flashy as even their playoff counterpart Pistons, but behind Lebron and Coach Brown this team is very much just that, a TEAM. An actual team is rare in this day and age, think back to the glory days of sports, Jordan and the Bulls, America's Team, the Yankees, Patriots, Spurs...all these winning, championship teams did have superb players yes, but the one thing they all share is that they are a team. From manager/coach down to the bench warmer, everyone is on the same page and knows their role and what to contribute. I feel that the Cavs have this going for them, and perhaps they won't win this year, but keep that chemistry and that team concept going, and mark my words they will be the next great dynasty in sports. Lebron said something very profound in his postgame interview last night in referring to the Cavs losing their lead really because the second team went in thinking the game was over and really speared the Pistons comeback, he said "I'm not upset or disappointed with those guys, I'm disappointed with MY TEAM and they way WE let them back in." He wasn't even in the game! There wasn't a starter in the game, and he STILL took some blame for the comeback. Could you see A-Roid doing that? Even Tom Brady (because you know no matter how much the Patriots are up, Brady is still throwing bombs to Moss)? I don't think so, and then after all that...he's 24. Twenty four years old! Absurb, completely absurd. God must have had a really good day when he made Lebron, because he gave this young man talents and ideas and a personality that is not seen, ever, especially in the big realm of sports.
  • Ok enough of my man-crush on Lebron, let's talk more NBA. Chauncey Billups has done more for the Nuggets than any of them will ever know. Being a retired point guard, I understand the importance of having a captain, leader, someone to calm the storm or humble the cocky. The Nuggets have always been a good team, look at the players they've had over the last 2 years...Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby, Nene, Allen Iverson, J.R. Smith, Kenyon Martin, Chris "Birdman" Anderson, and who can forget the man among boys that is Sonny Weems. They have always had a stacked lineup, the only problem has been their streakiness and themselves. As a team, just like their shooting, the Nuggets are streaky. They can come out and beat you 150-100 then the next night you turn around and beat them by the same score. Enter Chauncey Billups. Things change, he slows the ball down, he takes a technical foul, he draws a foul to get 2 free throws, little things he does that make the Nuggets a completely different team. I still believe that the Mavs will beat the Nuggets in the 2nd Round, but still, if Chauncey stays and they keep the key players, boy will they be scary next year.
  • Congrats to Derrick rose for being announced ROY. He very much deserved it. I still think he's as dumb as a sack of rocks though.
  • Dikembe Mutombo says his career is over after his injury in the 1st quarter of last night's game. Maybe now he will tell us all how old he really is, he's probably got some trees beat.
  • And finally before class, Percy Harvin tested positive for marijuana. Is that news to anyone?

I'll be back later. More to come, no shout out yet, that will be in my later blog. Til then.

The Fiction That Is: Sports Outside of Mavs Playoffs

  • I almost forgot, kudos to Mavs big Erick Dampier for finally realizing something I have been thinking about a lot as of late. In the Dallas Morning News, Damp basically told Tony Parker to watch out, because if he comes in the lane Damp is "putting him on his back". If I'm Tony Parker right now, I'm a little intimidated. Damp smiles so little, the one time I actually saw him show the pearly whites, I fell to the ground and suddenly forgot where I was. So thank you Erick for manning up, now let's just see you put it into action Thursday night.
  • Congrats to Dwight Howard on winning DPOY. The man simply gets it done. Superman throws shots so far into the crowd that the Magic should seriously consider putting up the same nets around the court that NHL teams use during their games. Just a thought.
  • As HE said, the C's lost Leon Powe for the rest of the postseason. If it wasn't bad enough already, they don't have former DPOY Kevin Garnett available, and now a KEY utility for the men in green is not there to stand in. That front line is dwindling. I agree with HeMan's series prediction. As far as the rest of that game goes, Ray Allen was clutch as can be with an unnecessary three ball to win the game. It's a good thing he did too, because Ben Gordon was UNCONSCIOUS last night, hitting big shot after big shot. Going for 40+, over one of the best D's in the league, in the playoffs, in Boston, is definitely something to write home about. I like how this series is shaping up.
  • This past Saturday, Washington Nationals outfielder Elijah Dukes was fined for arriving late to practice. At first it doesn't sound that bad, but then you realize the man was FIVE minutes late to practice because he was doing CHARITY WORK with a local Little League. I found this to be down right absurd. I know rules are rules, but really? You are going to fine the man for helping YOUR organization. Nevertheless, there is some good in the world as parents of that Little League put funds together in order to pay for Dukes' fine. Word to the wise: worry about things like winning games and spelling the team name on the jerseys right before you go handing out ridiculous fines, Washington Nationals (or is it Natinals?).
  • In agreement with my co-blogger, Tyreke Evans and Scottie Reynolds are doing the smart thing in not hiring an agent for the NBA draft. It is my belief that just about everyone in college hoops, besides Blake Griffin, could use an extra year before they break the bank with an NBA contract.
  • The NFL Draft is this weekend, and I honestly have been too consumed with the Playoffs to have any legit thoughts on it that don't involve the Cowboys. However, I do know that I would love to see Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay go head-to-head in a no-rules cage match, those two get heated around this time of year.
  • When I said Playoffs, I meant NBA, not NHL. Don't expect much hockey on here, especially considering the Stars' season is over.
Life's good, and this blog train is showing no signs of stopping.

Gracias y Adios,

Wil Grande

Mavs vs. Spurs Game 2: The Fallout

As HE said, thanks to everyone for posting and increasing the amount of followers, we appreciate it very much. Let the beat build...
  • Last night was awful, and nearly unbearable as the Mavs took a throttling to the tune of a 105-84 final. Shots were not falling (Dirk: 3-14, J-Ho: 3-8), but a good amount of that can be accredited to San Antonio slapping the floor and playin' some D. The Spurs were in the Mavs' jocks all night and made it hard for the playmakers to get on a roll. With much humility, Popovich stuck his best defender (Bruce Bowen) on JJ Barea, and it was obviously effective. Barea went 2-8 from the field with only 5 points, and managed to produce the lowest +/- of the night at -21 (For those unaware, +/-, as defined by Yahoo! Sports, is team net points while player is in the game). It was plain to see that he was not himself as he struggled to make things happen once he got in the lane. JET was the only Mav who seemed to be anywhere close to his usual self, going 6-15 from the field with 16 points. Not great, but not horrible. I don't even want to get into anything about Josh Howard.
  • Yesterday I said Parker would come back for more in Game Two, but when I said that I didn't think it meant he would tie the Mavs in first quarter points. Parker was sensational all night as he drove past anyone who dared to get in front of him. As a side not, is it just me or does anyone else notice that Tony Parker can't shoot a left handed layup...with his left hand? Regardless, he still brought the wood, going 16-22 from the field, with 38 points, 4 boards, and 8 assists. Nice game Tony, I really hope you never play like that again for the rest of your life.
  • Looking at the box score, what stood out to me the most, besides field goal %, was rebounding. SA won the battle of the boards 44-28. Bass was the only one who was flying after missed shots on a consistent basis, continuing to fuel the man crush that I and most other Mavs fans have on him. If the Mavs don't start hitting the glass better than that, don't expect much to change in the next few games.

  • The Cudder describes perfectly how I feel about Rick Carlisle sometimes, especially with matters involving my boy James Singleton. Last night, I found myself multiple times wondering why Singleton was not getting any burn as the Mavs could not get anything going. I'm not saying he will come in and carry the team to the point where his back hurts, all I'm saying is the guy usually brings energy and positivity to the court when he is in the game. Lord knows we needed it last night too, especially on the glass. The man leaps like the 29th day of February. Come on Rick, throw him in there and let him light a spark for others to feed off of. He may be lacking in playoff experience, but better now than never right? Right.
  • On a completely different note form last night's game, it may be a good thing that the Mavs didn't resign Nash way back when. I have a feeling if he was still on the team, Dirk would be doing things like this instead of working on one-footed fadeaways.
For now I'm putting the Mavs talk to rest. It's time to move on to other things. I want to echo what HE said about BJ, we love you and miss you man can't wait for you to get home.

Peace two fingers,
Big Wil
